Process Paper
From the many options we had to choose from for the history
fair, we decided to go with the Bill of Rights. We chose this topic because it
contributes to the theme for rights and responsibilities and it relates to our
society on a daily basis. We used sources
from a few documents as well as sources from the internet. Our understanding of
the Bill of Rights has increased because we have gone in depth with the
information and the history. We have learned so much about the information we
have gathered and we’ve become more interested in the topic.
We started by brainstorming the outline of the website and then researching the information online. We decided to start with a broad search, such as The Bill of Rights History and Background; then we went into more detailed information such as actual court cases and all of the Bill of Rights amendments. And of course, in order to make it more interesting for the audience, we added a few quotes and pictures here and there. We, both, definitely learned quite a bit through creating a website: from choosing different designs to actually building the site and discovering how to insert YouTube videos, basically experiencing new media usage through Weebly.
Our topic, The Bill of Rights, unquestionably relates to the theme Rights and Responsibilities. What creates the bill is the first ten amendments, these amendments are all rights that citizens have as part of the community. For example, the seventh amendment states: all are equal before the law and are entitled without any discrimination to equal protection of the law. This is a perfect example of how our topic relates to rights. As for responsibilities, it is our duty as members of a community to follow the rules and the law in order to maintain a stable society. Due to any broken laws or rules, there shall be a fair punishment.
The Bill of Rights is extremely important in history because it shaped the United States into the free country that it is today. Thanks to the first ten amendments that were created in 1791, we now have laws to follow and our country isn’t half as hectic as it would be without regulations. The bill protects the rights of the general public and prohibits any illegal or unreasonable activity that could possibly harm the environment. It has been an immense influence to the federal court over the past decades. If in any case the judgment of whether a victim is found innocent or guilty is uncertain, the rights can and will be reviewed. For example: when a person is arrested for any illegal cause, the police officer states his or her rights as a person who is treated equally to any other citizen who would be in their position, no discrimination should be made.
Overall, the Bill of Rights formed America into a well-established and firm civilization where people are sure to be safe under the law and feel protected by its guaranteed safety. The impact it’s had on the US since it was created is astonishing and it is never questioned. For if it was questioned there would be chaos, not only in the United States but in other countries that have inspired by it.
